In Their Name

A National Day of Remembrance and Connection

Together, we carry their names and create a path to hope and healing.

/ How to participate(01)

Carry a stone with your loved one’s name on September 19th.

  1. Find a stone.

    Any stone will do.

  2. Write your loved one's name on it.

    Paint markers work well.

  3. Carry it with you.

Up a mountain, around a park, down a city block, in your pocket while you run errands or work out.

  4. Place it in a cairn.

When you're done, place the stone in a cairn on a hiking trail, a city park, or even on your windowsill.

  5. Share it.

Use #intheirname and tag @riserecoverlive if you post about the day on social media.

/ Why stones(02)
Delicate Arch at golden hour, Moab

Built directly out of a tradition we already have at The Phoenix: our hikes in Moab, where each person carries a small stone and creates a cairn at the end of the trail.

In Their Name is a national day of remembrance for the people we’ve lost to substance use, mental illness, and isolation. We’re taking that ritual—carrying a name, carrying a memory, carrying a person forward—and opening it up to the whole country.

The ambition is that this becomes a day the whole country observes — not through our programming, but through millions of people doing a simple action on the same day because it means something to them.
